About

Rouse Rigging, owned and operated by Samuel Rouse, offers marine services backed by real-world experience at sea. Sam's involvement in the industry started before he left high school- buying a 32' sailboat with a few friends, all fellow Eagle Scouts, and living aboard. This laid the foundation for Sam's professional experience, encompassing work across a wide variety of vessels, ranging from a 9th-century Viking ship replica to modern block IV nuclear submarines.Sam started as a deckhand in the tall ship industry, working on domestic and international vessels such as the Draken Harald Hårfagre, Kalmar Nyckel, East Indiaman Götheborg, and the Oliver Hazard Perry. Sam currently holds a USCG 50 ton master's license.Throughout his career, he has owned multiple personal vessels, notably a 28' Triton, which he sailed single-handed from New England to the Bahamas, and back again during a multi-year refit project.Sam has experience as a shipfitter with General Dynamics Electric Boat, the Navy's largest shipbuilding contractor. As a shipfitter, he was responsible for installing components and assemblies into submarines. Often working with the Quality Assurance department, he gained experience in magnetic particle and visual inspection methods on submarine welds, including the pressure hull. With experience as an offshore single-hander, Sam's attention to detail is a core value of our service. Our dedication to safety and standards compliance above all allows our clients to sail confidently, wherever their journeys take them.

How we climb

At Rouse Rigging, we climb using modern rope-access equipment, meaning no bosun's chair, and no assistance required from the deck. With no one tending a winch below, we save time while increasing safety. We climb on the vessel's existing double-braid halyards for our main and safety lines and may require the replacement of said lines before we climb if they are in poor condition. We've spent many hours aloft, and have the experience to not only climb up, but come back down again safe. Every vessel presents unique climbing obstacles, contact us for a consultation.
